Extra Rib 05:13
When you wake Do you dream of me? I was away And in between You tore it out Of the frame Left to doubt If you feel the same It's hard to win When you've been outbid Will you carry the guilt Of your extra rib Will you carry it? When you wake Do you dream of me? I wasn't there I was in between I am alone And in my head Left to bleed With the shit you said It's hard to win When you've been outbid Will you carry the guilt Of your extra rib Will you carry it?
2.
Hookup 03:00
Took a minute or two To get your cover blown And I was never with you To get my seed sown And now you're screaming "slow down" And don't forget to breathe It's such a sweet sound Well that's what you want to believe You're hiding out You're hiding out You once were close to what you wanted to be You once were more than just a hook up to me Took a minute or two To get your cover blown And I was never with you To get my seed sown And now you're screaming "slow down" And don't forget to breathe It's such a sweet sound Well that's what I want to believe You're hiding out You're hiding out You once were close to what you wanted to be You once were more than just a hook up to me
3.
Circles 03:12
Loaded full of opinions Well you know I've got mine too The only difference Is I don't point that gun at you It's so convenient to lose track of time But I know you mean it, I've seen the clocks commit the crime Keep moving backwards Yeah I don't know where I belong Is it city or country? Yeah all my maps are wrong And it's so relieving To know you're happy now While I'm still believing That my world is upside down But I don't need you now No I don't need you now I'm always running in circles Trying to figure out If I have a purpose Other than to strum and shout
4.
Dream Killer 05:24
Been spending all my time Trying to fix my mind But the battle is uphill And the consequence is real I've been a success At killing all my dreams You know I cannot rest Until they're all bled out of me And I'll get it right some day And make all the bad guys pay And if you get left behind Well that's a chance I've got to take That bridge it never burned It just waits for your return Let the mountains ease your pain Let the city seal your fate How could I forget? The way you'd benefit From those weaker than you Confront the fire that you grew And I'll get it right some day And make all the bad guys pay And if you get left behind Well that's a chance I've got to take
5.
Temporary 03:25
It's not something you hold In your hands It's not gonna unfold As part of your plan And I'm just a ghost In your memory Protect your soul You can't save me Sometimes you're the knife Sometimes the kidney How many times can you replace me? You watched it grow Inside its cage You feel it flow Within your veins I'm just a hole In your tapestry Just let it go You can't save me Sometimes you're the knife Sometimes the kidney How many times can you replace me? Sometimes you're the knife Sometimes the kidney Just convince yourself it's only temporary Just convince yourself this pain is temporary

about

ABOUT THE SONGS:

Upon relocating to Harrisonburg, VA in the spring of 2016, Bishops (Tucker Riggleman & Payden Kimble) began writing a new record. Teaming up with engineer and producer Eric Shy at Hotel Appalachia, the band crafted a diverse and powerful album that was without a doubt their most representative material to date. The band's eventual (and most likely permanent) hiatus left this material in musical purgatory.

Late 2018 found Tucker Riggleman with a record but no band. After much inner conflict, Riggleman had decided to include his twangy side on the record, deciding that if it was okay for his heroes such as Paul Westerberg and Robert Smith to include diverse styles on a single album, why can't he do the same? He chose to release the most countrified songs as the "Time Machine" EP under a new moniker - Tucker Riggleman and The Cheap Dates. A much needed fresh start, the EP was well-received, so Riggleman assembled a band and hit the road. Releasing three more tracks in August of 2019 on a second EP, "Heaven", left just five remaining songs intact from those Bishops Hotel Appalachia sessions.

These songs could not be released under any other name -- they are without a doubt the most Bishops-sounding songs the band ever produced. Here you will (finally) find long-time opener and crowd favorite "Extra Rib" in all its creepy, fuzzed-out glory. You will also find the bluesy, anthemic "Dream Killer", which finds Riggleman confidently declaring in the chorus "I'll get it right some day / and make all the bad guys pay". "Hookup" and "Circles" were previously recorded in their more infantile stages, but the versions here are fully realized and powerful. The collection ends with "Temporary", a fitting eulogy for the band. It includes all the best parts of Bishops -- big, melodic, fuzzy guitars - Payden hitting the drums so hard you don't know how they aren't reduced to dust, Tucker's desperate vocals poignantly calling, "sometimes you're the knife, sometimes the kidney / how many times can you replace me?"

FROM TUCKER:

Looking back, I wonder where I would be if it weren't for Bishops. God bless Paul Cogle, that wonderful walking music encyclopedia with a heart as big as the moon. If it weren't for him, this band would never have existed. As The Demon Beat was winding down, Jordan and Adam were full-on with Rozwell Kid (I say this, but both made significant contributions to Bishops as well), and I was left with some songs, but no band. Paul really gave me a loving shove and offered to play bass and sing with me -- it really gave me the confidence that I could maybe front a band.

You know, it's scary to write songs and go play them in front of strangers, but it's also the best therapy I've ever found in this life. I've released a solo album, written tons more songs on the side, and played in other bands, but I'd like to think the lyrics and song craft of Bishops will endure as something incredibly special, at least for me personally. I'd like to thank all of the rotating band members who filled-in, hopped in the van for tours, played one-offs, etc.:

Andrew Ford
Adam Meisterhans
Jordan Hudkins
Ben Proudman
John R. Miller
Andrew LaCara
Vince Paixao
Ben Rellick

I left Paul and Payden off of this list, because to me they are permanent members. I see the band in two phases: with Paul, and with Payden. There was a brief overlap that was probably my favorite line-up, and then everything moving forward was Payden and me vs. the world. I'm having a hard time putting into words what this band and this music has meant to me, and maybe in the future I can sit down and write a proper farewell essay, but for now just know this:

Music, and in particular this band, saved my life. During the darkest, most trying times I've encountered, this band kept me focused and moving forward. For that, I can never repay anyone who had anything to do with helping us. I'll at least offer my most sincere thanks to anyone who ever booked us, gave us a place to crash, shared a stage with us, hung out with us, had a kind word to say, or attended a show. Thank you.

The proceeds from this collection of songs will go to help fund The Cheap Dates full-length which we just finished tracking. I am incredibly excited about it and hope you enjoy it when the time comes. Thanks for all of your support over the years!

With love and gratitude,
Tucker // Bishops

about

Bishops Harrisonburg, Virginia

"Bishops' wall-of-sound approach to fuzz rock is easy to zone out to in the best of ways, bringing to mind early 90s acts like Bob Mould and Miracle Legion...Dream Easy revels in being in the thick of it, even as it's a cathartic release of anguish. For capturing an important moment in everyone's lives so thoroughly, Dream Easy is already one of my favorite albums of 2016." - Adobe and Teardrops ... more
